Do’s and Dont’s of prayer from scripture

žDo’s and Dont’s of prayer from scripture

žDon’t pray for show
žExample of what not to do
žLuke 18:10-12
ž         10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
ž               12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

Don’t come to God with a prideful heart
žJames 4:6
But he
giveth more grace. Wherefore he saithGod resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Don’t treat God like a genie
žJames 4:3
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may
consume it upon your lusts.

ž

Do come to God in Faith
žJames 16:6-7
žBut let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
ž For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

žDo come to God with a clean heart
žPsalm 139:23-24
ž23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
ž24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

žDo come to God with boldness
žHebrews 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
