The Trinity March 19th, 2014

Berean Bible Youth Group
Wednesday March 19th 2014
What does the Bible teach about the Trinity?
Have you ever wondered, “What is God actually like?”
-Definition of the TRINITY“God eternally exists as three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and each person is fully God, and there is one God”. (Wayne Grudem)
-The word trinity is never found in the bible, but the teaching is all ___throughout_ scripture
Hints of the Trinity from the Old Testament
-Genesis 1:26- God said, “Let us make man in our image, and after our likeness.”
-Jewish rabbis throughout the ages have suggested that it’s similar to when a king speaks in 3rd person
-Other Jewish teachers taught that God was speaking to angels
In light of the New Testament, we see clearly that this is a _______conversation__________ between the different persons of the Godhead
-Genesis 3:22 “Behold, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil”.
-Genesis 11:7 “Come, let us go down and there confuse their language”.
-Isaiah 6:8 “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”.
-Psalm 45:6-7 “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever….You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy”.
-How many persons are being called God here? (_2_____)
-The throne will last “forever and ever” implying eternality
**Hebrews 1:8-9 interprets Psalm 45:6-7**
-Who does the author of Hebrews tell us this is talking about? (the ________Son______)
-Isaiah 63:10 says that God’s people “rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit”. This suggests…
-the Holy Spirit is distinct from God himself
-emotional characteristics of a distinct person
-Deut. 6:4-5 “Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God, the Lord is one.”
As we look at the teaching of the Trinity, keep this is mind:
-God is only one being. There are not 3 Gods. There is only one God. (Digging Deeper Ex. 15:11, Isa. 45:5-6, Isa. 45:21-22)
-The bible never tells us to believe a contradiction
-This is a mystery or a paradox clearly taught in scripture
-We will always be ______finite_____ and there will be things we never fully understand
-Allow this truth to humble us and cause us to worship more deeply
DIGGER DEEPER (In your own study, check out these verses as well)

-Ps. 110:1 and Matt. 22:41-46   -Is. 48:16  -Hosea 1:7 -Is. 61:1

Staying Connected

Staying connected to other believers is vital to spiritual growth.

James 5:16 says, "Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed".

Growth can't take place in a vacuum. God has placed us all in a community of believers.

This week, could you send a text, Facebook message, or make a call to another student in the youth group to see how you could be praying for them?

Spruce Lake

Our Youth Retreat is set for March 28th-March 30th.

vs. 8 – When God repeats the words of the people, it shows the insanity of sin. All sin is _____________.
-Did it make sense for ____________ to rebel against God?
-Did it make sense for __________ and ___________ to directly disobey God?
“Though people sometimes persuade themselves that they have good  __________________ for sinning, when examined in the cold light of truth on the last day, it will be seen in every case that sin ultimately just does not make sense” –Wayne Grudem

-Habakkuk 2:14 “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the _________ of the Lord as the waters cover the sea”.
vs. 13 – “Abraham, Issac, and Israel” not “Abraham, Issac, and _________________”….Why did Moses choose that name to use?
-Moses was recalling and relying on God’s _______________________
-In Gen. 35:10, it was God was the one who changed his name and called out this nation
vs. 14 – God “repented” or the ESV says “_____________” – God never actually “changes his mind” but rather “changes his method” or fulfilling his ultimate purpose (Pastor Bob)
Ps. 106:23 – Assures us that if Moses had not intervened, the nation would have been annihilated.
-vs. 10 shows us that God’s plans are going to be accomplished with or without the people’s obedience
Moses gave us a model for how we should be praying and interceding in our prayer lives…
-Resting on God’s promises takes the __________________ off of you and back on the only one who can perfectly fulfill promises

-Praying corrects our perspective and cultivates an attitude of desiring God’s glory above __________________ else
